Thanks, Cris! Dr. Hahn doesn't talk much about the origins of the papacy, but he does make the claim that Peter was the first bishop to Rome which is what I hope to address in wrapping up this response to the lecture. The eisegesis is pretty bad at some points in this lecture, to say the least.

I am honored to be quoted in this context. What Catholic apologists never admit, but is demonstrably true, is that the papacy as they hold to be today did not exist until the 7th century. That's why Augustine's exegesis disagrees with Scott Hahn's. Hahn presupposes the pretrine myth and reads it back into the passage whereas Augustine was not influenced by such papal propaganda.

I think the next couple of posts will demonstrate why John 6 cannot be read in the manner that Catholic tradition upholds. There is an issue of biblical disharmony that needs to be taken into account. Unless we do, we end up with untenable propositions and there isn't any reason that we need to.

With the utmost respect, I am not sure how much clearer we can have Jesus tell us that when we celebrate Communion that it is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ than in John 6: 35-68

John 6:35-70
[6:53-69 So Jesus said it Again, "With all the earnestness I posses I tell you this: Unless you eat the flesh of the Messiah and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. But anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh IS the true food, and my blood IS the true drink. Everyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood is in me and I in him. I live by the power of the living Father who sent me and in the same way those who partake of ME shall live because of me. I AM the true Bread from heaven; and anyone who eats this Bread shall live forever, and not die as your fathers did-though they ate bread from heaven.

Even his disciples said, "This is very hard to understand. Who can tell what he means?"
Jesus knew within himself that his disciples were complaining and said to them, Does THIS offend you? Then what will you think if you see me, the Messiah, return to heaven again? Only the Holy Spirit gives eternal life. Those born only once, with physical birth, will never receive this gift. But now I have told you how to get this true spiritual life. "But some of you don't believe me"(For Jesus knew from the beginning who didn't believe and knew the one who would betray him.)
And he remarked, "That is what I meant when I said that no one can come to me unless the Father attracts him to me."
"AT THIS POINT MANY OF HIS DISCIPLES TURNED AWAY AND DESERTED HIM.
Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked. "Are you going too?
"Simon Peter replied "Master, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life, and we believe them and know you are the holy Son of God. ]

Jesus lost ALOT of followers when he said this....If he was just saying that the Bread and Blood were a SYMBOL...I do not believe those followers would have left.
When Catholics celebrate the Euchrist (Communion) we do NOT believe that we are crucifing Jesus again each time....Jesus died once and for ALL at Calvary.

The following are a few more things that you can check into that will reitterate what Jesus is telling us
Matthew 26: 26-28
Luke 22: 17-20

To address the issue of how one feels about the Euchrist....Yes ....we do hold the Euchrist in highest regard as Christ himself tells us.
1 Corinthians11: 23-30
( 27-30) So if anyone eats this bread and drinks from this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, he is guilty of sin against the body and the blood of the Lord. That is why a man should examine himself carefully before eating the bread and drinking from the cup. For if he eats the bread and drinks from the cup unworthly, not thinking about the body of Christ and what it means, he is eating and drinking God's judgment upon himself; for he is trifling with the death of Christ. That is why many of you are weak and sick, and some have even died.

If we are to believe what the Bible tell us....we MUST believe that the Euchrist IS the true body and blood of Jesus Christ...even if it is a hard thing to understand....this is where our faith comes to into play....We are so blest to have our Lord and Savior present in the Euchrist!

Hope this helps a little from the Catholic stand point.

We are all brothers in sisters in Christ...trying to come to the fullness of Truth.

Ray Marsh / This passage also spaeks to me in a powerful way. Abraham did everything with a sense of purpose. He rose early, he did not delay. It almost seemed like he wanted to do it. Of course he did not. His emotions must have been tearing him apart. He did not even ask God for a reprieve, if He might change his mind, find another thing he could do. I am sure I would have. His faith is astounding and inspiring. If God had not spoke at the last second, I have no doubt Abraham would have slain his son without hesitation. His hand was not held high waiting. He would have seen it through without delay. How weak our faith must be when the Lord asks us to make the smallest of sacrifices and we agonise over them, procrastinate or even refuse. Oh that our faith would be like Abraham's and trust God entirely.

I definitely recommend the book, Charity. It's loaded with information, to say the least. As for Revelation 17:11 and John Paul II, I really don't know if anything's been looked at as a link. The webcam of his tomb is a strange one.

I can't wait to read this book! Thanks for the brief description of contents. I was wondering if anyone has researched the prophecy of Rev. 17:11:
And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
As we know, the Vatican didn't actually become a legitimate, legal kingdom until the 1929 Lateran treaty, making Pope Pius X1 the first king of Vatican City/The Holy See. Pope Benedict XVl is the seventh. He will continue a short space. If we look at how pope John Paul ll was buried (quite Satanically and unlike any other pope), did he go into perdition, will appear to come back and be the false prophet himself? So many people loved pope John Paul 2, so something supposedly miraculous, could fool alot of people. They actually have a webcam on his tomb.
